2015 Polaris Prize long list announced

It’s the list Canadian musicians and fans have been waiting for all year- if not to guess the winner, then to scrutinize who made it.

Earlier this morning in Halifax, the 2015 Polaris Prize long list was announced. The list is compiled of 40 of the best Canadian albums that were released from July 2014 to May 2015, determined by the RACS (Recording Artists’ Collecting Society).

In another month, the long list will be whittled down to the short list, consisting of 10 albums. Then finally in September, a winner will be determined by a jury of journalists, bloggers and programmers at the Gala in Toronto.

This year’s highlights for us include BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah’s Sour Soul, Caribou’s Our Love, Jazz Cartier’s Marauding In Paradise, and of course- everyone’s favourite love/hate artist- Drake, with If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.

Previous year’s big winners include Tanya Tagaq with her album Animism, Arcade Fire for Reflektor, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor for ‘Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!

Who do you think will take home the $50,000 prize?
