Montreal prepares to #Eats2Feed
Share the Warmth has been helping families in Montreal for decades, but it takes a lot of work to be able to fix the poverty situation in the city, especially when it’s been deemed the “poverty capital of Canada”.
Over the past 11 years, they have been hosting a gala called Table of Hope.
Each year, dozens of restaurants and businesses gather together to prepare and serve up over 1000 portions of their most delicious dishes to eager guests. With the organization celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, it’s their hope is to continue to be able to host events like this for the welfare of those in need for well into the future.
However, it’s not an easy task. The constant ups and downs of the local economy can take a heavy toll on struggling families trying to improve their financial situations. Poverty rates in the city have always been very high and each year the number of undernourished families needing to use food banks continues to grow. Fundraisers like this can only take place with the gracious help of local businesses and volunteers, as all of the food, services and entertainment are donated.
All of the proceeds from this event will be put towards Share the Warmth’s School Food Program. The program provides the preparation and distribution of healthy cold meals to over 2500 hungry students in 25 schools in the city, every week. Although most of the families involved in their programs are anglophone, it’s one of the organizations goals to develop its audience throughout the francophone community in the next couple of years.
This year’s gala will take place this Monday, May 4th at the beautiful and spacious Windsor Station in downtown Montreal. If you’re a foodie, this is the gastronomical event of the season. Your ticket purchase includes access to the banquet to taste what each restaurant has to offer in a particularly social environment with plenty of entertainment. If you’re a VIP, you even get access to a special cocktail tasting before trying all the delectable bites bring offered. As always, there are special prizes and giveaways throughout the night to look forward to.
Want to get involved but can’t make it to the event? Share the Warmth is always looking for volunteers, it’s easy to get started.
Remember, it’s children who aren’t eating enough nutritious food- you can’t forget to maintain your own healthy diet. Coffee is never a substitute for a nutritious lunch. There are many resources in Montreal if you are looking for some help, check out the links below for a good place to start.
The message is simple for Share the Warmth- just #Eat2Feed.
