Is there really a dark side of creativity?

Harvard Business Review makes its case

Yesterday the Harvard Business Review published a piece on the ‘dark side’ of creativity, making the rare case that creativity is not always a desireable trait. The author raises several points that feel very familiar to discussions our own editorial team have discussed internally and with our recent interview subjects.

“if creativity were as uniformly desirable and attractive as most writings on the subject suggest, it would happen more often, and without adverse consequences for creative minds. Too many of us simply want to ‘boost our creativity’ without acknowledging the dark places it often comes from — or the challenging places it may take us. The reality is that creativity is both taxing and complicated”
(Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, HBR)

Creativity has always been a common thread found throughout the evolution of WRG but we’re curious to learn how you, our readers, think about and approach creativity.

Have you experienced the dark side of creativity? Let us know how you battle back from the darkness, tag us on Twitter @wrgmag or leave a comment on the WRG Facebook page.
