Electric Zoo – New York’s Electronic Music Festival

This past weekend, I traveled down from Montreal to New York City to attend the two-day Electric Zoo Electronic Music Festival. I had a blast attending last year (the first year of the festival) while still living in NYC and knew I couldn’t miss it this year.

So I went off with ‘The Traveling Dance Party’, which consists of myself and my two fellow festival and electronic music loving gf’s Pererica & Alice (we’ve done WMC, Ibiza, numerous DJ sets and last year’s Electric Zoo together) to dance the days away.

Lots of ravers and normal folk were there and the styles of clothing were varied. Everyone seemed to be in their “Sunday’s Best” which included lots of hipsters in colored RayBan’s, 19 year old girls in neon American Apparel spandex, girls in tutus, girls in fur boots, people in animal masks, faux “Native Americans” in headdresses and the normal trendsetters.

The ground consisted of one Main Stage and three smaller (but still pretty big) tents named Hilltop Arena with it’s crazy lights display, the forest themed Sunday School Groove and musically my favorite, Red Bull Music Academy.

In my opinion, musically Saturday was better than Sunday. On Saturday, I got a chance to see Fake Bood, Axwell, Dirty South, Kaskade (who stage dived), Afrojack, Rusko, with the outstanding performance in my opinion being by Erol Alkan (marry me?) and of course, The Chemical Brothers who did a video display behind them that was amazing and very reminiscent to their ‘Swoon’ video (watch it here). The performances I had a blast checking out Boys Noize, Avicii, Wolfgang Gartner, Funkagenda and John Digweed. It was great also seeing Aeroplane which is one of my favorite music producing duo at the moment even though only one of them was there (check out their awesome Late July Mix here).

Wanna relive your experience or pretend you were there? Download some of the DJ sets played at Electric Zoo and see the tracklists here!

Check out some terrible quality pictures that I took on my BlackBerry!
