Pause for Reflection
Here we are, a new year, a fresh start and at the start of What’s Really Good’s tenth and most exciting year to date. This time last year, What’s Really Good was a blog – but a blog with a plan. Behind the scenes, we were busy designing a new look, discussing a change in editorial direction and coming up with all sorts of crazy dreams and ideas.
In June, a lot of them stopped being “crazy dreams” when we relaunched with a truly unparalleled sleek and innovative issue-based online magazine format that would feature nothing but in-depth articles and exclusive visuals. We have yet to catch up on last spring’s sleep, but the excitement and hard work has paid off: a few short months later, we received nominations from the Canadian Online Publishing Awards in the categories of Best Overall Online-Only Publication and Best Website Design.
But that’s not all the switch from blog to magazine has allowed to do – far from. New opportunities popped up left and right throughout the year, and we ended up accomplishing more than we ever thought we would.
We have interviewed and collaborated with talent as varied as Iron Chef and restaurateur Chuck Hughes, California dark pop band The Neighbourhood, UFC newcomer Alex Garcia, trance icon Armin Van Buuren, 30 Rock’s Judah Friedlander, Top Chef Canada finalist Danny Smiles and Haute Couture designer Rad Hourani as well as many acclaimed Canadian restaurants in the context of our Perfect Meal franchise, led by writer Serena Trifiro.
We have partnered with trade shows PROJECT in NYC and Vegas and Vancouver’s KNOWSHOW as well was the Red Bull ThreeStyle for a special issue. We have instigated brand collaborations with Bjorn Borg, UrbanEars, Buick and Yo’Dough. We have worked with many fashion brands in the creation of photo editorials, many shot by photographer Hannah Palmer.
We launched a microsite for Montreal and Toronto Fashion Week respectively, initiated a WRG Mix Series with internationally renowned DJs and created our own cooking web-series, Taco Tuesday TV.
We hope you’ve enjoyed all our efforts and changes from 2013, once again, thank you for supporting us the way you do. We’re happy to kick off 2014 with our Vol. 5 issue, a small taste of what’s to come. We’ll continue to strive to deliver the best interviews, more Perfect Meals from the most amazing restaurants and a ton of beautifully curated photoshoots for your entertainment.
Cheers,
