If you’ve seen a party flyer or event invite in the past decade or so, the name Skratch Bastid will ring a bell. Coming from modest East Coast of Canada, Skratch has been DJing for over 15 years and has been a huge part of the music community since day one. From Juno nominations to annual tours on the international circuit, and even an appearance on Couch Fort. Canada’s favorite Bastid might be the countries proudest ambassador.
His latest project, #SkratchSchool, is a joint effort with Red Bull to teach up & coming DJ enthusiasts on the skills required to be a good DJ. DJs are everywhere these days, but it takes a lot more skill and dedication to be successful than most people assume to be truly successful.
The first season of the web series was released yesterday and features lessons on basic DJ concepts, equipment, beat juggling & learning to make your own unique sound. So check it out as Skratch humbly guides you through the ropes and gives you tips and tricks based on his own experiences.
Skratch is also currently on tour hosting his 2015 edition of ‘Bastid’s BBQ,’ with stops in Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax and Winnipeg. The event features world-class DJs at each stop, live performances, and of course- more BBQ than most can handle. As you can see from the photo from last week’s event in Toronto, it was definitely a good time.
The next stop is in Ottawa on July 11th with some incredible names like Thugli, Bear Witness, and Green Lantern. Rumour has it that Nas might even drop by after his Bluesfest set that day! So you should probably get your tickets now.
