Nike has a stranglehold on many industries. Snowboarding will soon be their newest conquest with pro rider Danny Kass’s hilarious videos as well pulling Simon Dumont from his current sponsors to join the team.
Pharrell rocking the new Nike snowboard boots have sparked up unconfirmed sponsorship reports and rightfully so, but maybe Pharrell is not paid by the swoosh and is truly onto something new.
We’ve run down a list of the pros and cons of rocking snowboard boots off hill, but we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Pros
1. Ankle Support: As they are incredibly stiff, you won’t roll your ankle when you go to dunk.
2. Waterproof: Being designed for snowboarding, they’re good to go in that department, plus they’re super warm.
3. Well Made: No holes in your boots from all those ollies.
4. Grippy: With a heavy tread pattern, they hold up better than your Vans on ice.
5. Ultra Hightop: When AF1 highs just don’t do the trick, they’re practically cowboy-boot-height.
Cons
1. Forward Lean: This is not how you want to walk around all day long. Also, they make you shorter. Expect lots of leaning on your heels.
2. Expensive: Running at about $250-350 on average for a decent pair of snowboard boots, you can place them right next to your Bapes and Gucci Slippers.
3. Bulky: In the era of slimming down the footwear, these go against the grain, just like Pharrell is doing by wearing ’em.
4. Tough To Take Off Quickly: When you finally do pull some groupie ass, don’t expect to be able to hop in the sack without a 5 minute head start.
5. Heavy: Even the lightest pair of snowboard boots is about 3 times as heavy as a pair of Dunks.
