70’s Silhouette
Had enough of the 80’s? Us too.
In the spirit of the New Year, this week’s fashion report is dedicated to the future. For those of you who are ready, it’s time to leave behind the leggings and minis because we have a new silhouette to look forward to. Long and lean, ladylike and chock full of class – the 70’s silhouette is finally back.
As seen on the runways for Spring 2011 and in the pre-fall collections, the era of Studio 54 is coming back – but with a little refinement. Expect longer hemlines and yes, even the bell-bottom to return. Remember your waist? Well, you’ll be seeing a lot of more of it in following seasons. Cinch it in with a patent skinny belt over high waisted wide leg trousers or a knee length skirt, or if you dare add it to a one of the many versions of the full-length jumpsuits that will soon be available. The 70’s silhouette would not be complete without a plunging neckline – just remember that balance is key.
Along with longer lines comes a new color palette to be excited about. Burgundy, rust, dusty pinks and reds, mustards, different shades of brown. Try to incorporate these colors into your wardrobe for spring and you’ll be ahead of the pack. Not convinced? Take a look at some choice looks from mega influential designers and you will see that 70’s inspiration can be fashion forward and not old news.
Don’t forget about accessories. Head scarves, oversized sun hats and shades complete that 70’s look. Pile on the long chains and slip your feet into some platforms and you’re good to go.
Peace and love.
p.s: if you’re still in love with 90’s grunge, that’s alright.
