Viceland: Television to Look Forward To
It’s fair to say that in the past few years, many of us have given up on watching cable television. With so many other options that give you actual control over what to watch, it’s easy to see why.
Cable television and the marketing around it has been stagnant for years now, and it’s only right that one of the most progressive news outlets, Vice Media, is setting out to prove that television doesn’t have to go extinct: it just needs better creative content. Vice hasn’t changed the way they approach their stories, just changed the medium by which they’re being exhibited.
The channel is being overseen by Oscar-winning director Spike Jonze and features hosts both new and old, who are all still just as immersed in their stories and explore them hands-on to give you the full report. Hopefully this means less one-sided fear-mongering coverage filled with unfortunate advertising, and more well produced shows that feature content seldomly covered by mainstream media.
It’s equally exciting to see that their Canadian programming will not just be a trickle down of stories from the United States, but will have ten original series showcasing strictly Canadian content.
Viceland is set to debut in early 2016, with new series featuring favourites like Noisey and Weediquette, but also some new series such as Motherboard, a show about the future, and Flophouse, a show about comedians behind the scenes.
