Nothing Was The Same
I sit before my keyboard writing this once again. I’m overwhelmed by where to begin. The time between this issue and last has felt like an incredible period of transformation for me and for the entire WRG team. Our third volume comes just on the heels of receiving two nominations by the Canadian Online Publishing Awards, Best Design and Best Online-only Publication. Being in the running against goliaths like Random House of Canada, St. Joseph’s Media and Corus Entertainment is truly an honor. I’m humbled by the acknowledgement we’ve received by a panel of some of the best in the industry.
As if that wasn’t enough, the soundtrack to this monologue is provided by two artists whom I was blessed with the opportunity to interview for the magazine some years ago. Drake and Pusha-T, two of my favorite interviews and favorite rap artists ever, I can’t help but soak up inspiration from their passion for meticulously crafting each word, verse and song that open like a window into the lives they lead.
The transformation doesn’t end there. I’ve spent the better part of the last month soaked in my own sweat pushing beyond my physical limits and changing my outlook on health and fitness. With the help of Phil, Matt and Dan, the Blackout Fitness team have kicked my ass into an acceptable semblance of healthy. (A special thanks to Steph Berks for convincing me to try this out.) Read all about that experience here.
On the cusp of our 9th anniversary and on behalf of everyone on our staff we’d like to thank you all for being our motivation, for being the reason we strive to improve and to inspire you with every issue.
I could go on but I’d rather have you jump into an article and honestly, ‘how much time is this writer spending on the intro?’
Cheers,
