New Rules
Immediately after the release our first issue, I felt like sleeping for about a thousand hours. Lindsay our editorial director and I had just powered through a 36-hour marathon polishing up every article and handcrafting their respective layout in an effort to give you the reader an unparalleled online magazine experience.
Despite my best efforts to enter a mini-coma I barely slept more than four hours before the adrenaline hit and I was back on my laptop sharing and plotting this issue. It was also at this time, my phone, inbox and our twitter feed was being flooded with comments and feedback from friends, fans and peers about the new site. How refreshing, clean and different it felt to them. How our departure from the blog world had encouraged them to actually READ articles, watch the videos and explore the site. I rejoiced a little, (ok, I admit that I did a little dance) but mostly just kept hitting Fwd to share the messages with the rest of our team. We set out to change our imprint online and it was working.
Only days later, Jay-Z released his first teaser video for his Magna Carta album announcing his Samsung partnership. It nearly broke the internet. But Jay had said something that instantly resonated with me, “That’s why the internet is like the wild west– the wild wild west– we need to write the new rules.”
Our whole team eats, breathes and (occasionally) sleeps these #newrules. Our magazine breaks every one of the old rules of the internet without a second guess. This issue we’re continuing to build, improve and write new rules.
Just take a look at our brand new interactive cover. It will point you towards everything you might need, be it a good laugh with 30 Rock’s Judah Friedlander, or a terrible case of FOMO over the food with our friend Derek Demmann at Maison Publique served up. Get your twerk on with our cover story on NYC based DJ collective Electric Punanny.
Thank you once again for letting us into your lives. I hope we can inspire you to join us and help us pave the path from the wild west to the new frontier of the internet. But unlike Hova, we welcome your Hashtags and Retweets.
Cheers,
