Meet the Testers

Unless this is the first issue you’ve stumbled across, it should be no surprise that WRG is not a running publication. It is true that we run, we even have our WRG Run Club, in fact, feel free to join, but note that we aren’t a running publication. We’re emphasizing this because our testers are very much like you, each reviewer has a different style and you’ll probably find a runner who’s style matches up nicely with your own.

With that said, meet our testers.

Justin has been running for 8 years, and runs 3-4 times a week and enjoys training for his favorite race distance, the half marathon. He runs for the love, the high, and to stay healthy. Justin is confident that he can get off the couch any day and run a 21 km but admits that he would be hurting a little afterwards.

After hanging his kicks from competitive basketball DVD laced up lighter, faster shoes and began crushing pavement in 2013. A year later he founded YAMAJO run crew with some friends for support and motivation in achieving their running goals. Fast forward to 2017 his running diet consists of 2 runs with the crew mixed with 3 solo runs per week in hopes of qualifying for Boston 2018.

Jen is a west-coast native that has called Montreal home for the last three years. She discovered her love for running just two and a half years ago when her then-fiance dragged her out to the Lachine canal for a summer evening run. Since then, Jen got serious about training after completing her first half marathon in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Her current half marathon PB is 1:47:08

Youri has been running for about 3 years. He started by running solo until he was invited to join the WRG Run Club and realized how much fun it was to run with their people. He averages about 3-4 runs per week – Montreal’s Mont-Royal trails are pretty much his second home.

Sabrina started running about a year ago on a month long visit to LA when she joined the Cobra Fitness Club. Running twice a week up Runyon Canyon, brought the realization how out of shape she was despite following an intermitant training routine. Sabrina considers herself a beginner runner and isn’t afraid to admit that this is her first time running in the winter, something she thought she would never do because she’s always cold.

Elke represents a large segment of runners. Hardly motivated to go out on her own, she’s motivated by group runs, high fives and the rush of endorphines after a good sweat session. When not actively running, Elke is always recruiting new members to join her for their first jog and erases any doubts new runners may have.

Shawn started running a year ago to lose weight. Each 15 minute run felt like forever. After joining the WRG Run Club in March, Shawn was instantly hooked. The weekly mountain 10k became part of his routine and now having passed the 500km mark, Shawn’s new goal is to complete a half marathon.

Like many, Logan took up running to reclaim an active lifestyle. Balancing running with other activities including yoga have helped him kick his smoking habit. Logan’s only started running and has a bright journey ahead of him.

Serena has been running for almost two years and typically hits the streets two-three times a week, year round. She considers herself an intermediate runner yet her endurance and speed would indicate she has huge potential once she sets her 2017 goals.

Leslie only began running 2.5 years ago, yet he’ll probably talk your ear off if you let him. He continues to chase new PR’s and convince newbies to try running.

Abdul loves the feeling he gets from running. He’s always researching new techniques to put to the test for ways to keep him running, further and more frequently. Running has aided his soccer skills, helping him on the pitch over those 90min long matches.

Lindsay has been running for just over just a year. Having started in the colder months of 2015, winter is her favourite running season. She clicks anywhere from 30-50km a month, she considers herself very much a beginner runner.

Dan’s journey through running began in 2015 with an office challenge to enter the Brooklyn Half Marathon. Since hopping on that bangwagon he hasn’t looked back. Competing in nearly 30 road races since, Dan now sits in the top 98th percentile among New York Road Runners, always chasing his next PR on both short and long distance races.
