EmptyFest: the beauty in silence
ll weekend long you can see festival-goers trying to frame the Jacques Cartier bridge or the En Masse ‘OSHEAGA’ sign perfectly in the background of their Snapchats & Instagram Osheaga pictures.
People jump on each other shoulder’s or lean over the railing of the VIP just to get that shot of the hill filled with people and the glow of the neon sign atop.
It’s a constant struggle to get above, around or just out of the way in order to get that perfect shot.
So you settle. And crop.
You settle for the guy with the horse head being in the corner of every picture or that the dust creates an unwanted flare.
When Radiohead finished their last song everyone was lining for the fastest exit off the island, we saw an opportunity to stay.
What is a festival with no festival-goers, no vendors and no musical acts?
It an eerily beautiful space that captures what’s left behind.
The chaos becomes calm and the last remaining workers dutifully go about their work.
We created a photo editorial entitled EMPTYFEST; the beauty in silence.
