Well, Osheaga & all of the hype is over, & it won’t be long before we’ve moved on & start talking about the next festival. There’s no shortage either, a new one seems to pop up every other weekend. So how do you choose which one to go to? Or do you choose one at all?
We decided to ask around to all types of festival-goers what their reasons were for coming to Osheaga this year & what they think about the state of music festivals. Whether people came with their families, friends from out of town, to work the festival, for music, to dance, or just to get free stuff- everyone seemed to have similar answers: to bond with like-minded music lovers in the summer sun.
Male, 20s, Vancouver- Just moved to Montreal & came to the festival to meet new people, catch some of his favourite hip hop acts, & see Montreal’s atmosphere at the height of summer.
Family of Four, Quebecois- They’ve been coming to Osheaga since it’s inception & it has become a family tradition, they want their kids to experience something they love.
Male, early 20s, American- First time at a music festival, was tired of missing out on all of the experiences his friends were having, figured now was the perfect time.
Long distance Girlfriend, Early 20s, Montreal- her boyfriend works at electronic music festivals in Toronto & he has never been to Osheaga before, so she invited him down to see how different Montreal festivals can be.
Friends, 20s & 30s, Saskatchewan & Ontario- Because there are no music festivals near where he lives, they decided to meet up in Montreal & see what all the fuss was about. He’s considering moving to Montreal & wanted to get the feel of things before making the decision.
Female, early 20s, American- She came up with friends from the states to party & try to make some memories, however hazy they may be.
Fruit Vendor, 20s, Quebecois- She thought it was a great excuse to see her favourite bands while making money & meeting fun people.
Female, 20s, France- Her brother lives in Montreal now, so she thought it would be a fun thing to do while she visits.
Male, early 30s, Quebecois- He came to party in the sun before the winter comes & everyone in the city hibernates.
Male, early 20s, New Hampshire- He didn’t come for one specific thing, but knew that if he didn’t like the music, he would be able to find other things to do, whether in the city or at the festival.
Best Friends, Teens, Ontario – These girls came up to hangout with their friends in the city & make the most of their summer, they knew they would have some serious FOMO if they missed Osheaga.
Friends, 40s & 50s, Saskatchewan- Came to the festival with his son the previous year & had so much fun that he brought his friends up with him this time. They plan on coming back next year.

Security Guard, 20s, Ontario- He works for the security company that runs a lot of the festivals in Ontario & Quebec. He thinks it’s a great summer job because he gets paid to see music he loves & it beats working in an office.

Clown, probably Immortal, your Imagination- He may not have talked, but I’m sure he turned a few heads this past weekend.
