Fashionably Outspoken

Another controversy has erupted this weekend in the fashion world. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, the designers behind Dolce & Gabbana, were quoted using some choice words about their feelings on donor fertilization.

The designers explained that they believe in “traditional families,” ones that weren’t, “born by chemistry”. Continuing to elaborate on the fabric that makes up a true family structure. The news truly hit the fan when Elton John posted on his Instagram account a photo of the designers along with the statement, “How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘synthetic.” This has since sparked a #BoycottDolceGabbana campaign, which has gained traction through social media support from Elton’s close personal friends… and we all know he rolls with an influential crowd. It seems that the Italian designers have shown no remorse for their stated opinions and firmly are standing on the principle that everyone has the right to freedom of speech. For more info check out BBC’s report on the topic.

Where do you come down on the matter of freedom of speech versus outright demeaning statements?
