Profiled: Luv U Always
WRG? spent the day with Luv U Always designers Tara and Gabi Garbarino, and followed the twins to some of their favorite hangouts getting an inside look to where all the magic happens (design magic that is).
With the help of their mother and their older sister, the Garbarino’s have impressively created a fashion niche in the Canadian market and have turned Luv U Always into a coveted brand name.
But don’t be fooled by the Balenciaga sunglasses and Louboutin pumps; these girls are focused on perfecting their legging line and infusing their personal style into it. These twins manage to balance each other, designing, school and social lives, it’s a good thing there’s two of them.
WRG: What’s one of the last things you bought?
TG: I actually just bought a fixie. I got it from Breakless, a really cool shop on Parc Ave. It’s all white, with black rims and pink tires.
GG: I have to say the last thing I bought was a new pair of Vans.
WRG: What’s the one thing you can’t live without this summer?
GG: A good pair of heels.
TG: And a good pair of SUPER sunglasses.
WRG: What’s your current obsession?
GG: Not on a material base, my current obsession is Dallas Green. Well, he’s not my obsession but he’s like one of my favorites. I just love his music.
TG: Jean jackets. Like with little dresses, they’re really cute.
WRG: What’s one of your favorite places in the world?
TG: New York. I have really good friends there, every time I go I just have the most amazing time. The shopping, the atmosphere, the people, it’s great.
GG: I’ve been to LA once or twice, and I love LA.
TG: People see that our styles are like, I’m more East coast and she’s more West coast. So it’s funny, that we chose those cities.
WRG: What’s your biggest guilty pleasure?
T: Shopping. It’s like terrible, but I get a really big joy out of it.
G: Texting. Wait … no, hamburgers! No, I love hamburgers.
WRG: What’s your favorite piece in your closet?
TG: My Louboutins; they’re my obsession.
GG: I love Billion Dollar Boy sweaters. They’re casual and trendy. So easy to wear.
WRG: What’s one of your favorite gifts anyone’s ever given you?
T: My dog. Nella. Basically I’ve always wanted one, it wasn’t for my birthday or anything. She’s a family dog but I wanted her the most.
G: I’m going to Isla Mujeres this summer.
WRG: Where do you guys get your inspiration?
GG: I guess from celebrities. Beyonce wore these leggings recently that were studded from waist to ankle, and ever since then I can’t stop thinking about them.
TG: My friends, and people that I like in this city that I like they’re style. In Montreal, there are a lot of girls that have good style and, I dunno, you feed off it. We’re definitely trendsetters of our own. We mostly like to do our own thing.
TG: Oh and my mom too. She’s such a good shopper.
WRG: How do you hope to evolve as designers?
TG: I would love to open a Luv U Always store. I think we have a long ways to go but definitely hope to get there one day.
GG: I definitely want our company to be more out there. Not just for the leggings, but for my sister and I. We want people relating to us, liking our style and mostly how we came up with the line. It shows if you really set your mind to it, you can do it. We’re pretty down to earth girls, and to see that we did it ourselves with the help of our mom and our sister, just us four. It shows that other girls can do it too.
