In Other News . . . Wakeboarding Is Cool Too

Recapping the rest of my summer and a little bit of fall. I may not have been Chasing Winter, more like waiting for winter. I strapped on a board and tried out my skills on the water.

Boarder Pass, Sarnia Ontario: The first straight-line Sesitec System 2.0 setup in Ontario. The system is designed for a continuous tow between two-towers with the pull of an electric motor. The conductor controls speed and direction of the motor that is attached to a tow rope. The set up this year included a battleship (up flat down) box rail, up flat box, dance floor and one booter.

Slider Till She Freezes Over & Bungle in the Jungle, Basecamp, Muskokas Ontario: The premier wakeboard / wakeskate school and camp in Ontario, Basecamp, is notorious for their awesome coaches and staff and unbelievable events. The Bungle In The Jungle wakeskate only contest comes a day after the Slider Till She Freezes Over team contest (2 wakeboarders & 1 wakeskater). Both events happen on the exclusive Basecamp Slider Park and attract the best bunch of dudes and dames in the land.

Coors Light Canadian Wakeboard OPEN, Little Lake, Peterborough Ontario: This weekend event included Supra Pro Wakeboard contest ($6,000 purse), Cottage Toys Amateur Wakeboard contest, Pro & Am wakeskate, and Yamaha Marine slider rail contest. Around the grounds spectators could watch the Yamaha Freestyle Motocross show, shop vendor booths and camp out in the Coors Light Beer Garden. Big music line up on the Wolfstock Stage featuring: Holerado, The Spades, USS, The Arkells and Down with Webster.

Throw It Down Girls Ride Day, The Wake Institute, Pigeon Lake, Bobcaygeon Ontario: Probably some of the best weather I saw all summer. Perfect blue skies brought heaps of girls to ride at the free ride clinic day at the recently opened Wake Institute. The wakeboard / wakeskate camp run holds ride clinics throughout the summer with pro coaching behind some serious boats and on a sweet slider setup. Over the summer the water sports facility brings in waketock champs and national pros to host clinics.

The Roots, Ontario’s Amateur wakeboarding and wakeskating series to take you far out of the reaches of the concrete jungle. Nangor resort and Len’s Cove Marina played host to the second stop to the grass roots wake contest series. The resort is the ideal setting for a contest, with long white beaches, cool deep water, townhouse style lodging and a bar.  The three stop contest aims to promote competitive wakeboarding and wakeskating to any level and age. Categories include, Newbie (first ever competition), Beginner (180s & indys), Intermediate, and Open, for ladies and gents. There are always tons of free giveaway, cash and swag prizes and a lot of positive energy. This is the best contest to take advantage of if you are just beginning or enjoy hanging out with a lot of rad people.

Buckeye’s Big Day Out: For the second time the crew at Buckeye Marina brought sports fans out for a day of free riding with coaches, boat demos, Captain Morgan, BBQ, and night time wake and ski shows. There was an amateur wake competition the Sunday after the big day out.
