Edmonton by Night

Continuing our partnership from last year, WRG and Palladium Boots explore new cities and ideas throughout Canada.

The latest installment for 2016, WRG photographer Paul Swanson treks out West and brings the City Explorers series to oil country. One-time home to hockey’s The Great One, Edmonton, Alberta is a burgeoning community of creatives including Last Gang records’ duo Purity Ring, Haven Shop and more.

This photo essay explores a quiet and empty Edmonton after dark. The use of orange and blue, Edmonton’s iconic professional team colors, runs throughout the editorial and are used to isolate the subject from the surroundings.

Swanson’s choice to document the subject throughout his own exploration of the city addresses the current infatuation with photography and visuals popularized by social media.
