Community GOODs

We’re not big on downtime. When we’re not pulling WRG together we’re usually getting involved with some great brands and events to bring you all some truly memorable experiences. Here’s a rundown of some of the biggest events we’ve been involved in since publishing Vol. 8. Meet our Community GOODs.

Bacardi Party – August

vol-9_community_goods_bacardi_03
What better way to end the summer than by sipping on some mojitos and cuba libres, courtesy of Bacardi? The rum giant hosted Festival Libre at New City Gas in August, a massive party that we won’t soon forget. An abundance of Cuban treats were on hand, from churros with chocolate sauce to empanadas in addition to the necessary range of sugar cane-based cocktails. As if that wasn’t enough, live entertainment from Carisma Cubano and some unreal Brazilian dancers got the crowd into a cha cha frenzy, and even got the cigar smokers pumping their tobacco in true Cuban fashion. We wished you all could have made it, and made sure to keep all our Twitter followers who couldn’t come out up to date on the action. ¡Salud!

Montreal International Black Film Festival – September

vol-9_community_goods_spike

The 10th edition of the Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF) brought some inspiring films to the city, in addition to press conferences and a full day discussion on the critical issues facing filmmakers today. The MIBFF also honoured Spike Lee with its first ever Pioneer Award – and rightly so.

WRG was in the room at a number of festival events to meet the most influential black directors in the film industry today. We got a first-hand look at how the MIBFF fills the void when it comes to exposing people to incredible independent movies from black filmmakers. The talent on-hand was truly inspiring, and gave us a chance to experience films and talent that would otherwise not make their way to Montreal. We’d like to thank festival creator, Fabienne Colas, for the opportunity to be a part of such an impactful event.

Johnnie Walker Private Tasting – October

vol_9_wrg_meets_johnnie_04

Johnnie Walker and WRG hosted a private tasting to share the history of the brand. Participants had the chance to sample Red Label, Black Label, and Blue Label gold liquor.

Fun fact: Women have more taste buds then men and tend to prefer the smoother labels while men tend to lean towards the more flavourful scotches.

The North Face Store Launch – November

WRGNorthFaceUnedited-73

For the grand opening of its newest Montreal store at 1247 St. Catherine Street The North Face partnered with What’s Really Good to organize its kick-off celebrations. The pre-opening event played host to media, of course, and to local personalities including Nordine Taleb (of UFC fame), actor Adrian Holmes, rock singer Jonas Richard Tomalty, and many more. Guests got to enjoy a sneak peak of the new store while enjoying beats by DJ Hatchmatik. Back of House Catering and Danielle Levy provided healthy eats (including a very appropriate trail mix bar) to the hungry masses.
