Zodiac

Jeremy ‘Zodicac” Rose, releases a fearless and impressive debut through Jacques Greene‘s Vase/Forever imprint. The hypnotic 5 song EP is a beautifully crafted departure for the one time Weeknd producer (“What You Need”, “Loft Story, “The Morning”).

‘Girlgirlgirl’, the glitchy and pulsating opener, sets the tone with a repetitive vocal sample over bass-driven drum patterns. The first single ‘Come’ featuring vocalist Jesse Boykins III is dream-like, minimalistic approach to modern R’N'B. and the best is indeed saved for last with ’138′, a slow burning thumper infused with horn like synths.

There is a fire inside the Toronto native to prove to fans of his previous work that he is more than just “The Weeknd producer”. The sense of urgency to separate himself from past productions is clear here. And to new listeners, Jermey Rose has created a sound distinct to his sensibilities by mixing genres and staying current with bass influences. Likely to catch the ears of music enthusiasts that are fans of label-mates Koreless and Greene, the Zodiac EP is exactly where it needs to be in a time where the sound of R’N'B is constantly changing.

Out now on iTunes, the physical release was yesterday, October 8th.
