You know whats nice in Milan this time of year? Men.
It’s fashion week for Menswear Fall 2011, and all the buyers for major department stores and the like have gathered in one of the 4 major fashion cities of the world to make their selection for next year. How lucky they must be. The city is literally infested with male models.
But I digress. This is about the clothes, right?
Here is a compilation of the three top hits so far, so many men to look at so little time more to come.
An absolute highlight of all the shows was (once again) Burberry Prorsum. Christopher Bailey knows what he’s doing. He concentrated on coats, and outerwear for whatever weather London may throw at you (see: rain, snow, rain) – taking inspiration from old Burberry ads from the 1960′s. Bailey even ended the show with a full fledged rainstorm on the catwalk. Classy guy.
What do you get when you cross the Amish with a David Lynch film? The Louis Vuitton Fall 2011 Menswear collection. Not much of a color palette in this collection – think black, white, tan & red – but sharp tailoring made for a dramatic and somewhat futuristic collection. Belted blazers however, possibly not the best of styling choices.
Leave it to McQueen to make history sexy. New head designer of the label, Sarah Burton, is definitely putting in the work to keep up the McQueen aesthetic – and she’s doing it well. Most of this collection is wearable (save perhaps a giant cape), and gives old-school British styling the spotlight it deserves.
Stay tuned for more picks.
