Day Four: I woke up at 4:50 after a strange dream involving a heartfelt lecture by Deborah from Everybody Loves Raymond and one of my co-workers back home. I finished DMZ Volume 2 (That book has blown my brain to bits) and banged out a Travis Bickle set of push ups. After breakfast we headed over to my uncle’s neighbours’ place. My uncle had been entrusted with some artwork by his friend Omar from Cuba and he wanted to get it valued. I don’t know a whole lot about art, but I knows what I likes and I likes that.
Today, I also met more family for the first time. My mum’s cousin Renee, her husband, Martin and her son Marick. I also met Mum’s Uncle Mark for the first time in 20 years. He and his wife Auntie Phillipa (R.I.P) put mom dukes up while she was studying out here as well. The story of how Auntie Phillipa made it out to Canada is pretty amazing – it will more than likely end up in the Whisky & Whimsy somewhere. My uncle an I had planned to hit a bar in downtown Toronto to check out some jazz players but we never made it. Once we hit Brampton we ended up eating Cheetos, drinking whisky and ginger ale in front of the weekend football games for the rest of the day.
