Just a few weeks ago I saw this tweet from @HiroProt

I knew this was going to be good, and possibly just what I’ve been waiting for! It took me to turntable.fm and with a giant grin on my face I gave it access to my facebook.(checks for mutual friend invite.) One second later I’m listening to my friend DJ with about 8 other people (avatars) bopping their little heads in a virtual nightclub!
HALLELUJAH!!! A FUN & AWESOME GROUP LISTENING SITE!
So what the hell is this? Basically you have a DJ account, and you can upload ANY songs you want to the turntable.fm servers. Once you made a nice little library of hot songs you want to share, get your ass up in that dj deck and pump out those beats! The site will take your queued song and synchronously play it to the other users in the room! It’s LIVE, everyone hears what you hear, you are the DJ!
The best part of turntable.fm is that it’s extremely social and extremely addicting. Let’s go over some of the features. First you have your own little dj avatar which can be customized with points you receive. At the bottom of the screen there is a Lame/Awesome gauge just like in Guitar Hero. Users can vote if you suck and your song gets skipped, or reward you with awesomeness points for playing great music. There is a chat window to speak with everyone in the room, as well as a list of your mp3 library to que music. The top bar let’s you navigate to other rooms as well provide sharing buttons to social sites to easily bring your friends into the party. The DJ deck displays the current song and time left, and if you hover over it you have options to add the current song to your DJ playlist, last.fm, spotify, or the option to buy on iTunes.
When creating a room you have the option to make it public and let anyone join, or create a custom private room. Each room has space for up to 5 DJs. Each DJ takes a turn playing a song, then moves on to the next DJ. That’s about it. Once the beats are flowing, the magic starts happening. Everyone gets excited, people talk about the music and whatever they are doing, or some like myself pretend they are actually clubbing while really at their computers. Even though this site is still in beta, it seems people are easily spending hours playing music while socializing with their friends. It’s truly a new listening experience.
Currently turntable.fm is in semi-private beta and only available via web (mobile rumored to be coming soon). In order to get started you need to hope one of your facebook friends has already used it, as you need to be a friend of a friend to get access. You can request an invite here, or leave a link to your facebook account in the comments below, and one of our friendly WRGMAG staff will happily be your friend!
I have no doubt that if you like music and try this site just once, you will be HOOKED!
