The recent (and ongoing) Spring/Summer 2012 runway shows have been showing a variety of new looks for men. One thing that most menswear collections are showing is the designer’s interpretation of the suit; specifically the blazer. Although the basic structure of the blazer remains the same, every designer offers a variety of modern versions of lapel styles.

PEAKED LAPEL

This lapel style was extremely popular in the late 60’s and throughout the 70’s and due to the recent resurgence of the two decades, designers are reinterpreting this lapel style to bring it into 2012.

SHAWL LAPEL

This style is traditionally seen on a dinner/tuxedo jacket; however designers have recently been showing some really modern and more casual interpretations of the lapel allowing men to wear it in a more informal setting.

NO LAPEL

How about just taking it off! This is traditionally called a Nehru jacket or Mandarin collar and has a very strong military look to it. It also pulls inspiration from traditional Asian jackets.

Hopefully the recent reinterpretation of the lapel will inspire men to mix it up and try on a modern lapel.
