Once upon a time we all woke up in our beds dreaming of a life that would be amazing and filled with all the stuff and people that we always dreamed of. From amazing parties, perfect weddings to the job that made us all the money in the world. Then as we grew up we realized that life wasn’t so easy – it took work, stress and a lot of setbacks to get us to success.
Any person can tell you that life isn’t perfect or that it takes hard work and dedication to achieve your goals. What people won’t tell you is that it sucks to do the right thing sometimes. It hurts even to take a moral inventory of your life and figure out what it is that you really want – not for right now but for the future.
I could go out and make myself feel special by having people be excited by my very (gay) presence but I choose not to. I choose to set goals for myself and hope that with dedication I will achieve them. Although it’s taken me quite a long time to figure out what those goals are – I have some and that’s all that matters.
When life has you going in spirals, step back and take a breather. Determine what’s important, who has been there and where you want to be in your life. Will the people around you help you get there? It may not be what you originally woke up dreaming about as a child but guess what – life is full of surprises and as long as you handle them maturely, so be it!
Have fun, live your life and find out what’s important to you forever – not for right now. One day at a time works when each day is moving towards a future. As gay as this sounds, Mariah Carey sang a great old song about it called ‘Make It Happen.’
Listen to your heart and open it up to new possibilities because only you control your destiny.
