Last year Christian Dior dismissed celebrated designer John Galliano over anti-Semitic comments caught on film. Since Galliano`s controversial dismissal, the entire fashion world eagerly awaited news of who would replace him after over a decade with the label. On Monday news broke that Raf Simons would take over the reins.

While the world waited for a decision, Bill Gaytten has been standing in as head designer for the Parisian design house. Even though many were convinced that he would remain as head designer for the label, everyone seems pleasantly surprised with the decision to bring on Simons.

After Galliano`s dismissal last year a string of labels announced changes in their designers. In late February news broke that Jil Sander is returning to her label after eight years, leaving Raf Simons without a design house, triggering rumors to surface about him moving to Dior. Similarly, after news broke that Stefano Pilati was leaving Yves Saint Laurent, everyone was almost certain that he would take over at Dior. Finally countless rumors will cease with Sander`s move.

Simons is expected to bring his simple elegance to Dior reinventing the label. Furthermore this will be Simon`s first chance to create a couture line.
Although there have been a string of rumors and a complete rearrangement of three major labels, the world fervently awaits the new Dior.
