As the holidays are upon us, something just seemed so right about writing this week’s Music Monday post about Sleigh Bells. If you’re expecting some happy Christmas jams, I’m sorry, but you’re going to have to wait for next week’s post.
Signed on M.I.A.’s label N.E.E.T. as well as on Mom + Pop, this “noise pop” band comes to us from of the land of indie rock (Brooklyn, NY of course). The duo met in 2008 when server Derek Miller waited 4th grade teacher Alexis Krauss and her mother at a Brazilian restaurant in Brooklyn. He began talking to them about music and mentioned he was looking for a vocalist when Krauss’ mother volunteered her daughter as the girl he was looking for.
Sleigh Bells began getting noticed in 2009 after dropping ‘Crown On The Ground’ (which was named Pitchfork Media’s 57th best track of 2009) and ‘Infinity Guitars’ during that year. In 2010, the group has continued to grow, rock it and gather a strong following with ‘Tell ‘Em’, ‘Riot Rhythm’, ‘Rill Rill’. ‘Run The Heart’ and others (their album ‘Treats’ which came out last May features 12 songs).
The music world is definitely taking notice as they’ve been named on many blog’s top music in 2010 lists as well as remixed by producers such as French Horn Rebellion, Bassnectar, GhostWaves and Kingdom.
Check out the video for ‘Infinity Guitars’ and take a listen to some of their tracks below.
