Osheaga is almost upon us, I can practically smell it. Let’s be honest, the lineup for this year is pretty balling. Even though EDM is my preferred genre of music, I can 100% appreciate everyone else in this amazing lineup. GO MONTREAL! When big acts like this come to my hometown I always feel so proud that a little city like Montreal can attract talent like this. I’d have to say my favorite acts will probably be Snoop, Justice, Florence + The Machine, Madeon, Zed’s Dead, Birdy Nam Nam, Adventure Club, Common, Wolfgang Gartner and Knife Party (see osheaga.com for full lineup).
I will be writing one post per day throughout the week, each being dedicated to previewing one amazing Osheaga act.

OSHEAGA PERFORMANCE: Friday, August 3 – JUSTICE (9:35 – 10:45 pm)
I have actually been a longtime fan of this french electro duo (Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay), pretty much since I heard their track ‘Phantom’ back in 2007. This song has such a wild melody and the drop is perfection. Phantom Part II is a darker and grittier follow up to the first (and thus my obvious preference). Soulwax remixed this song and I kid you not when I say that I have never taken it off my iphone playlist since then. 6 years! Boys Noize also did a huge remix…check them out below.
According to last.fm, Phantom is “a melodramatic masterpiece of microsampling and modern electro house trickery. It plays out like a climactic opera and seamlessly links to its 2nd part Phantom pt. II which becomes darker. Noted for it’s groovy distorted bass slapping and choppy melodic highs”. Both songs sample from Goblin’s ‘Tenebre’, see below.

Helix is a great, energetic and uplifting track. I don’t REALLY listen to electro but this is electro at its grooviest. It’s so easy to dance to!
