Music Monday: Jochen Miller

In preparation for Armin van Buuren‘s Montreal shit-show at New City Gas on October 5th (ugh, see below), I decided to do a write up on one of his opening acts, Jochen Miller.

I was first introduced to Miller during the 2012 Bal en Blanc. It was one of my first raves, and a crazy, beautiful experience. No one forgets their first few raves, especially if one of them is the world famous Bal en Blanc.

AvB is a god who knows how to feed off his crowd like no other. How does he do it? YEARS of practice. He is a legend for a reason, my friends.

But Armin aside, who is Jochen Miller?

Well, he is a DELICIOUS piece of Trance manmeat from Mill, in the Netherlands. His actual name is Jochen van der Steijn, but ‘Jochen Miller’ sounds much more…ahem…American. He is 33 and began DJing when he was 16 at his father’s disco. (Tee hee, disco.) What does that even mean? Just joking! If you haven’t heard of Studio 54 you should seriously school yourself. Fast forward to 2008 when his track ‘Lost Connection’ was featured on A State of Trance (AvB’s epic radio show). BOOM! By the good graces of the Almighty AvB* himself, Jochen rose to stardom.

But let’s jump back to Montreal, where New City Gas is the hottest new party/raving spot, and where the boys will both be playing. I have to say that it is not my cup of tea by any stretch. The venue is long and narrow and basically the complete opposite of ideal raving space.

However, despite it’s odd design, tons of DJs have already made their mark: Tiesto, AN21 & Max Vangeli, David Guetta, Infected Mushroom, Moby, Steve Angello, Laidback Luke, Benny Benassi, Skrillex‘s afterparty, Porter Robinson, etc. Don’t get me wrong, the lineups are AMAZING – so go Montreal!

Upcoming shows include Thomas Gold, Jus Jack, Joachim Garraud, Sultan + Ned Shepard, Calvin Harris, and Boys Noize.

*Sidenote – Can Trance be considered a religion? Hmm, Kandi Ravers must be extremists – bombarding the word with extremely colourful beads and exposed, painted boobs.

Without further ado, below are my top 5 FAVORITE JM tracks. ENJOY! I certainly am…

Download Jochen Miller Zodiac (Original Mix). iTunes tells me I have played this song 56 times. I suppose I kinda like it…

Download Rank 1 Vs Jochen Miller Wild & Perfect Day (Michael Jay Parker Original Booty).

Download Jochen Miller Flashback (Original Mix). The original is RETARDED. Play this at any club and everyone will shut up and dance.

Download Jochen Miller Flashback (Gregori Klosman Remix). WHY IS THIS SO GOOD?????

Download Jochen Miller Bamm! Really great buildup, wow. The 1:58 minute mark gets me every time. GACK.

Keep calm and listen to TRANCE,

J
