Skrillex, Pretty Lights, Diplo, Grimes, KOAN Sound, TOKiMONSTA, Hundred Waters = Skrillex’s Full Flex Express Tour around Canada, eh? When my absolutely favorite Grammy-winning genius artist, Skrillex (duh), announced this tour, I had to hang onto my chair handles. SKRILLEX IN CANADA, amazing! SKRILLEX IN MONTREAL…cue me lying face first on the floor.
Good old Montreal has been bursting at the EDM seams this summer with Tiesto, Kaskade, Benny Benassi, Laidback Luke and so many other incredible DJs. We are also going to KILL it with Osheaga (Snoop, Justice, Florence + The Machine, M83, Common, Knife Party, Wolfgang Gartner, Zeds Dead, MADEON, Adventure Club, and many more). But this tour…woah. When I saw Skrillex at Ultra, my heart practically stopped beating and yet almost jumped out of my mouth, talk about a paradox. Skrillex slaughtered Ultra in his little spaceship and then he killed it AGAIN mixing with 12th Planet in the dubtep tent.
This insane crew will be traveling between cities on a private passenger train and there will be a multi-stage festival event at each tour stop (Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver). I really love that this concept was inspired by the eponymous 1970 train tour across Canada taken by some of North America’s most popular rock bands, including The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Band and Delaney & Bonnie & Friends.

For those of you who are not yet familiar with TOKiMONSTA, Jennifer Lee grew up in Los Angeles learning classical piano. “She has come to use this background to create vast textural soundscapes by utilizing live instruments, percussion, digital manipulation, and dusty vinyl. Through the creation of beats, she is able to fuse vintage sounds with progressive styles into something unique” (Facebook). Sometimes jazzy, Below are some of my favorites!
