Les Montures

You can finally throw out your crooked vintage glasses and the new ones you bought three years ago and have to wear because your sight is slowly decaying. Here comes Les Montures.

The small concept store on Bernard St. West is ANOTHER level. Decor aside, the tight selection of quality brands dating all the way back to 1960s, 70s, and 80s manufacturing is stunning. “Back then, the confection was way better, so most of the products I sell are better quality than what you could find new” says owner Nicolas Hamel.

Hamel is riding the vintage wave, albeit with a different surf board. He is hiding a few high-end material in his back-store and does a few private client-stylists sittings but he mainly focuses on catering to a wider audience, with affordable, yet quality-guaranteed (new) vintage frames.

His personal favorites are the ski shades from Alpina, Boeing – the luxury Carrera line; Lanvin and Pierre Cardin for prescription glasses.

Every item is unique, and he will make sure it remains so. Nicolas is a frame-hunter. He started out by collecting frames and knowledge of them until he had too much to not share with the world. Now he releases the gems season by season, basing his collections on new trends mixed with reminiscent eccentric touches.

Here is the way it goes:
1st step: You fall in love with a frame in the store, or online.
2nd step: You go to the optometrist who cuts the lenses custom. The price varies depending on your prescription.
3rd step: Everyone asks you where you buy your eyewear and you reply it is top-secret. Basically, your glasses are star-material.

Prices for frames vary from $50 to $300 plus the prescription lenses (an additional $50-300). Shades go from $100 to $400.
