This is the perfect race because it has no finish line

What is the Wings for Life World Run?

Have you ever wanted to run a race? Maybe a 5k or a half-marathon but find the whole idea of running with hundreds of strangers more intimidating than being chased by the bulls in Pamplona?

As Michael Jackson would say, you are not alone, there is the perfect race for you.

What is WFL?

Wings for Life is a global not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation. Well recognized across Europe as a leader in innovation, they are host to the annual Wings For Life World Run. A unique open format race which occurs in 34 cities worldwide at the exact.same.time. This year the race takes place on May 8th.

Whether you find yourself in Lima, Peru or Takashima, Japan thousands of people will be taking to the pavement united.

One Race. One Day. One World Run.

This is Not Your Typical Race

Circling back to that Pamplona reference, the race format is completely different from what you’re used to. The finish line isn’t ahead of you but behind. Think of it like a ‘running of the bulls.’ Around the world, participants start at the exact same time and run, walk (and even push strollers and wheelchair participants) going at their own pace.

30 minutes after the race begins, a ‘catcher car’, think of it like ‘the bull’, starts following the pack and ‘catching’ runners. When the ‘catcher car’ passes you, your race is done. The car speeds up slightly every hour until every runner is caught.

With no set finish line, you don’t feel a of the pressures of conventional races. Need to stop and walk? Go for it! When you catch your breath, start jogging again, simple as that. It’s an unsuspectingly motivating race.

Oh and to top the super awesome, no-pressure race format? How about the fact that 100% of the entry fees go to help fund spinal cord research.
