iTunes U and iBooks Announcements

Today at Apple’s New York event, as expected, an announcement about Apple as related to education was made. The biggest announcement was an all-new iTunes U app that allows educators to put all course materials (syllabus, handouts, assignments, quizzes, audio and video information, and more) in one place for students to view on iOS devices. But in addition, Apple announced highly interactive iBooks Textbooks for the iPad that will be available from the iBookstore.

iBooks itself has also been updated with new ways of navigating and manipulating pages and content, and a Mac app, iBooks Author, will allow publishers to create those previously-mentioned interactive iBooks Textbooks. Only time will tell whether these new products can change education the way Apple has changed computing.
