Blame it on being in the ‘cultural epicentre of Europe’ as so many in this city claim, but all of the sudden, I’m all over the art.
Case in point, I just loooove this retrospective I came across online. Form, content, graphic design, art… all words and ideas being thrown around in the wonderfully woven together piece on Paul Rand.
He’s best known for his work designing logos for the likes of IBM, UPS, ABC and Westinghouse. He also was a fervent pusher of the Swiss Style of design, which if you aren’t familiar, is a sleek type of graphic design that emphasizes readability and more commonly uses photographs than any kind of illustration.
In the video created by Imaginary Froces for his posthumous induction into The One Club Hall of Fame, Paul Rand is explained in a nutshell, and in his own words.
The short video is made up of graphic imagery, stylized footage of Rand and bits of an interview with the designer. Directed by Mark Gardener.
