Introducing: The Correspondents
Mr. Bruce and Mr. Chuckles are the amazing duo that make up The Correspondents, a wonderful mix of jazz, swing, scatting and… dubstep?
Indeed, the british born boys make music that can’t quite be categorized, and that’s why we love them.
While Mr. Chuckles mans the turntables, Mr. Bruce mans the mic, and the dance floor. The man moves like no one else and has an energy to be reckoned with.
But last night, in the depths of Door Studios in Paris, the duo put on a rather demure show. Due to certain noise bylaws the speakers couldn’t be pushed to their full potential. As a result, their playlist was cut a bit short, leaving them just enough time to rev everyone up with a few swing tunes.
The evenings silver lining reared it’s pretty little head when I ran into Mr. Bruce and Mr. Chuckles back stage. The two were getting ready to head back to their hotel and attempt a few hours sleep before jetting back to London. While the two have been touring and playing gigs for the last three years, their very first EP comes out today.
So, sound system permitting, what can one expect from the Correspondents? Normally, a night spent with Mr. Bruce and Mr. Chuckles starts with a bit pomp and ends with a ton of bass and a whole lot of sweat. The boys know how to get a crowd going, weaving their way through different musical styles, working up to an explosion of drum and bass to finish things off.
