Ice Cube Celebrates the Eames House
A little known fact about Ice Cube is that before he became a rapper, he studied to become a certified architectural draftsman! Knowing that only makes it more strange to see him comment on the Eames house in this video for Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980. Pacific Standard Time is a series of exhibits involving dozens of Southern California cultural institutions celebrating the Post-WWII L.A. art scene, all organized by the Getty Institute.
In this case, Ice Cube was brought on board to talk about the Eames House (one of the most celebrated pieces of modern architecture by famous 20th-century husband-and-wife design team Charles and Ray Eames). In the video, Cube offers insights on planning and building, going green, the resourcefulness of the Eameses, and architectural landmarks in his L.A. And of course, he manages to relate it back to rap. Check out the video of Ice Cube being a design nerd above.
