Heart Of The City

Day Two: I woke up at my leisure this morning. The fact that it was still dark at 7:30 AM wreaked havoc with my body clock, but I soldiered up and got myself together. I hung out with my aunt for a while in the morning. Auntie Ama is quite a character – she is one of the few people I know – maybe the only one – who can keep my mum in check. I guess it was all those years setting curfews for her back in the days. I also got to kick it with Lucky The Cat. Lucky is an interesting one. Fearless, for starters and half crazy. The sense of adventure that comes with youth is obviously not just limited to human beings. If he was a person – Lucky would be on Ritalin. He also insisted on playing with the power cord to my laptop as I typed, apparently not caring less that a mains shock would fry him like so much sausage meat. The last time I saw him before we left the house he had stolen one of the scouring pads from the kitchen sink and was batting it around the floor. If he could speak, he would have said “YEAH! DISHCLOTH!”

I rolled into Toronto with Uncle Jojo in the early afternoon. We took the scenic route in and he gave me the Lakeshore tour. While he headed up to the office, I went off to get my money changed. And what’s this I see across the road from the bank? It can’t be…Yes…yes, it is. A comic book store. Ultimate Iron Man II was purchased toute suite. After a little more wandering I headed over to the City TV studios. There I met up with Pedro the cameraman and my uncle before we headed over to the Toronto Humane Society. I got to see the news being made first-hand. Uncle Jojo was doing a story about their great cat giveaway. People were freaking out left, right and centre because dude from the news was there, but he took it all in his stride.

After hitting Huso on Queen Street West for food – My faith in Korean cuisine has been restored after a dodgy meal  a while back – but that’s another story – I headed out to the shops again. 3rd Quadrant was my first port of call where I picked up DMZ – a Vertigo trade paperback about a journalist who gets stuck on the island of Manhattan after a second American Civil War. Then I dropped into the New Era shop and finally managed to get my hands on a navy blue Yankee fitted (Not a gold one, not a green one, not a pink one – just good old fashioned blue) - I’ve been looking for one for months but haven’t managed to find one that will fit my large cranium (which houses my massive brain). Lastly, I dropped into 155 John Street to check the  garms they had on sale there (Ain’t nuthin but Crooks in here…).

And then home…
