Fall Beauty Fashion Trends 2012

Some time ago, my girl crush, slash acquaintance, slash we-became-friendly, slash now-we’re-actually-friends (or so I would like to think…) asked me to write for her online magazine.

Initially, I jumped at the idea. Excited, I had big dreams of wonderful posts with my name on them. Thousands of ideas flowed through my head, my fingers itching to type type type…

While that eagerness remains, I admit my own laziness, work, last minute activities and, well… life, kind of took hold of me. And then there’s my best of frenemies in the world, who’s always there when I (least) need her: procrastination.

But, finally, here I am! And after having fully processed our women’s fall fashion trend report, I thought it be fitting to start things off by presenting you with fall’s newest beauty offerings.

Right now, I simply want to drape my body in layers upon more layers of luxe materials, that’s of course until the first snow fall hits, at which point I’ll happily switch to anything down filled. But before I get ahead of myself, here are some of the top fashion trends for Fall 2012… with a bit of a beauty-oriented twist!

OXBLOOD ANYTHING

The fashion gods have decreed this Fall’s IT color – the one you’re going to want to snap up a fantastic sweater or coat or coated pants in – is Oxblood.

I must say, this is just fantastique! To best wear this trend, try a deep, rich red lipstick with a simple swipe of bronzer on your face and a fluffy mascara to lift up your gaze! But do keep it simple, as the main focus will of course be on your pout! My preference is MAC. Find it at any MAC store or online.

Try any of these lovely deep reds: MAC Red, Chili, Hang Up

MODERN MILITARY

Vintage Military Jackets continue to hold strong this season, even (dare I say) gaining in popularity.

I admit that I have searched and googled and etsy’d and marketplaced for the perfect vintage camo jacket and boy was I excited to find a military surplus website in the UK that shipped internationally for a very reasonable price.

Wear this trend on your finger tips with a beautiful shade of dark green. My choice is OPI’s new Germany Collection in Nein! Nein! Nein! Ok Fine! The name is enough to get you swiping that shade on your fingernails STAT.
HUT HUT! And give me ten push-ups, cadet! Find online or at most nail salons.

My runner ups for fittingly green nails are Essie’s Stylenomics and Deborah Lippmann Billionaire (doesn’t that just scream like fun?!)

BLACK IS BACK…(has it EVER left???)

Long gone are the days of neon visions spanning the downtown area, or clogging up Instagram. Fall 2012 embraces the return of dark clothing and Black is back with a vengeance. Well maybe not so much a vengeance, but it will be seen in skinny jeans, coats, sweaters and, well, in just about anything.

What better way to welcome its return but by purchasing a great new dark black mascara that will have your eyes smiling all throughout the winter months?

Find the newest formulas at Sephora. I would definitely give Noir G by Guerlain a try, or of course stick to classics that you can never go wrong with like Yves Saint Laurent Faux Cils (my personal go-to for several years) or The Other Mascara for me …Christian Dior Diorshow. (Keep that a secret. I’m usually very loyal…)

LEOPARD, ZEBRA, OCELOT, CAT, HORSE…ANIMAL something

Meow. Ok, this is a bit of a personal call, but in my opinion, Leopard has been that trend that constantly oscillates from tacky tacky tacky to fab fab fabbity fab fab fab and then CHIC, and then back to tacky. Right now, (and lucky for us,) it is most definitely in the fabulous spectrum as you probably already saw in our fashion trend report (Get Wild With It).

I believe that when it comes to leopard or animal prints, no one has said it better then Nina Garcia, “Buying a print with a pedigree (think Dolce & Gabbana or YSL) is the best way to avoid the garish look sometime associated with animal prints” – The One Hundred.

To transcend the current leopard/animal trend showing up on everything from shoes to belts to animal faces on over sized sweaters to horse prints on silk blouses… change it up with a fierce new fragrance.

Celebrities are jumping on the bandwagon by making their own eau de “I Am Famous”. Fame and fortune aside, when it comes to scents you should opt for value. That means something that will mesh well with your skin.

The choices are almost limitless, but I would for sure give a good sniff and a spray to
two of my absolute cult favorites, Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb and Tom Ford Black Orchid both whimsical deep scents and Miss Dior Le Parfum a new twist on an amazing fragrance of a jolie gamine Dior style.

COZY OVER SIZED SWEATERS
Preferably in ivory, in cable knit and in cashmere? Ooh la la

I. Love. Sweaters. I really do. With Fall coming around the bend, I am just
dying to get out all of my sweaters and roll around in them. But most importantly I’m just itching to buy some new ones.

And what would look better with some new sweaters than the perfect winter complexion and glow?

Wait, what? A winter glow?

That’s right I said it. Let’s ditch those heavy bronzers and opt out of the over-tanned look in lieu of a more dewy, soft complexion. In fact, a good face cream will actually bring out the last of your lingering summer glow.

So say hello to beauty’s newest craving. Here are a couple of New BB creams by Bobbi Brown and Smashbox and the amazing Josie Maran, from Model turned Beauty Expert cult favorite-slash-skin magic oil.

Thank you so much for writing this article! I’ve been looking for the perfect red lipstick and I do believe that I’ve found it in MAC Red. It looks simply sumptuous.

As for the military trend, I never really thought I looked good in green but you made me realize that I can totally pull it off as long as it stays on my nails and away from my face (haha!).
Regarding mascara, one of my best friends recently introduced me to Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes. I had been using Diorshow for years and the moment I tried Givenchy, I was converted. You can layer it up just like Diorshow and it doesn’t dry out nearly as often!

I completely agree with you, animals prints are hot hot hot right now. I honestly don’t mind wearing them all year round, I suppose it just needs to be done in moderation (purses, scarves and shoes all together are a huge no-no. sigh). Black Orchid has been on my do-buy list for months now. It is such a purrrrrr-fectly lovely scent for fall, I really need to get on that bandwagon.

Lastly, I really think I am going to invest in your Josie Maran suggestion. It looks so……moisturizing. I am naturally paper-white/pinky in skin tone so it makes me quite happy to see that people will be putting their bronzing powders away, tee hee. As the winter is so harsh on our skin, I’ll take any suggestions I can get to keep the dryness at bay.

Thank you so much for the beauty suggestions, my shopping list just got that much longer!
