Forgotten Fire: Lauryn Hill – The Sweetest Thing (Original Mix)

In the wake of last week’s tragedy in Haiti I read that Wyclef was contemplating reforming The Fugees for a benefit concert in the hope that he could help repair the lives that were shattered by the earthquake. I saw them in London back in 2006 when they reformed and the show was good – interesting dynamic given that Lauryn Hill ‘performed both ‘Lost Ones’ and ‘X Factor’, that night with Clef who has long been rumoured to be the subject of both songs, standing just across the stage from her.

So this week’s Forgotten Fire comes courtesy of Ms. Hill. ‘The Sweetest Thing’ was her cut from the ‘Love Jones’ Soundtrack in the late 90′s (Remember when movies had banging soundtracks – which were often nothing to do with the soundtrack?). I had this on CD, but how it came to be in my possession is a fact I forget. Anyway – there were’ two versions of ‘The Sweetest Thing’; The uptempo Mahogany Mix sampled the ‘Theme From S.W.A.T’ and teamed Lauryn with John Forte. It was the OG mix that stole my heart, though.
