Diddy Dirty Money Coming Home Tour

…and I was like “so, he’s still doing that rapping thing eh?”

The 41 year old rapper (amongst other things) held his first Toronto concert ever on Sunday April 17 2011. Typically one would get amped for a concert by loudly playing popular hit songs and belting out the chorus at the pre-party. But alas, I left my cassette player back in high school along with my Sean John tack suit. My Party Of Five (another 90′s reference) and I played tracks off of YouTube and was filled with nostalgic recollection of the time when “Kiss 92 plays today’s hit music, now give me my money”.

The fourth stop of the Diddy Dirty Money – Coming Home Tour serenaded the crowd with many hits from P.Diddy’s (also dating back to the days of Puff Daddy) vast chronicle of singles, albums, remixes and features. The rap trio group signed to P.Diddy’s label Bad Boy Records, includes Sean (P.Diddy) Combs, Dawn Richard and Kalenna Harper. The three took stage clad in full white outfits to a thunderous crowd after a dragged on DJ interlude between Diddy and opener rapper Tyga.

The 27,000 sq ft. venue with a capacity of 2,500 bodies was pleasantly packed with the main congestion of kaleidoscopic skin tones at center stage stretching from the front of the stage to the back bar. Needless to say the crowd was responsive and avid, so much so that everyone wanted to take the experience home with them. Already handicapped by my low line of vision, I had to contend with a dense haze of smart phone recording devices idly hovering like fireflies over water.

The endlessly delayed album Last Train to Paris, finally has been released and in case you’ve missed it you can catch the first single, a Diddy ego-balad with at least 4 Biggie references (Diddy can’t stop, won’t stop…using Notorious’ memory to push his own career).Coming Home has reached #11 on US charts and is currently a pop-radio favorite.
