The Spot
If you find yourself in the New Orleans Uptown neighbourhood (and really you should, because it’s a great area to visit) grabbing a Dat Dog is something of an Uptown rite of passage, according to the locals. A brightly coloured and whimsically decorated exterior complete with a twenty-foot long communal hot dog shaped table welcomes you to “put a smile on your face”. A visit to Dat Dog certainly achieved just that.
What’s Really Good?
The menu includes all sorts of gourmet dogs ranging from the alligator sausage, to the crawfish sausage, to the Guinness dog poached in Ireland’s notorious stout, as well as a selection of more classic European sausages. You are welcome to dress your own dog with a cornucopia of toppings (especially Andouille), or have the experts dress it for you. The dogs are served to you tableside after ordering and they look as good as they taste, the hardest part is to decide what dog to order in the first place. Dog highlights included the Alligator sausage as well as the Guinness dog, and the not-to-be-missed turducken dog! Sides to accompany your dog include classic and delicious floats, the favoured float being made with Mexican coke — because high fructose corn syrup doesn’t belong in this thing of beauty.
You’ll Wanna Know
If you brought a huge appetite Uptown with you, add Anna’s White Trash Fries to your experience for only five Benjamins, these fries come loaded with everything you could ever ask for at a weigh in of what felt like roughly ten pounds.
Dat Dog certainly elevates the once lowly wiener to an almost heavenly status.
Oh and, it’s cash only!
