This past February Alexa Chung was named the Young Style Ambassador for the British Fashion Council (BFC). Although the title carries little official responsibilities, it does require Chung to attend various events on the BFC`s event calendar during 2012.
Although it is common to have ambassadors for various international fashion councils, they tend to be designers, fashion editors and major retailers. Although Chung has worked as a model, fashion editor and television host her most appealing characteristic is her social relevance. Everybody knows who Alexa Chung is and by making it her job to attend London Fashion Week, the British Fashion Awards, British Style Award and various fashion events during the 2012 Olympic games people will likely follow her hopefully making these events more popular amongst younger people worldwide.

Chung`s new title as Young Style Ambassador for the BFC suggests that maybe it would be a good idea to create similar titles in The Fashion Designers Council of Canada (FDCC). In early April news broke that Fashion Television has ceased production which could seriously damage exposure of Canadian fashion, the introduction of a relevant young internationally known celebrity could help promote Canadian fashion worldwide.

Although Chung has only recently begun working as Young Style Ambassador to the BFC, her term will ultimately test whether her title will help promote various fashion events in Britain, and whether it would be beneficial for other fashion councils could profit off of similar titles.
