The Abridged Version:
First off, I would like to say how absolutley terrible I feel for not posting since April. The dual life that I alluded to in the past has always been subject to a delicate balance. In the past couple of months, that equilibrium has all but gone out of the window.
When I first moved out to Canada – you have to understand, I was done with music. No mas. Never again. I had poured my heart and soul into it for years back in London and it didn’t really feel like I was getting anywhere. So, when I arrived in Toronto in ’08 – it was without the burden of any sort of musical ambition.
That lasted about a month.
After that I was jamming with my cousin in secret and not telling anyone about it, like a weekend fiend. Things pretty much continued in that vein, until we had a full band – another four months after that. We were on our way. The events of the evening of August 5th 2009, pretty much set in stone what would happen thenceforth – a beat CD was left at my house, by a man who would soon be known to the City of Hamilton as Cheese Shop Paddy (Because his name is Paddy – and he works in a cheese shop). We played our first show on September 28th, with Micachu and The Shapes and Miramichi, performing material that I’d written in the UK, our second on December 19th. And after that – we were on our way.
Last week – after eight months of being a group, we put out advance copies of our debut offering – The Bundle Up EP – ahead of the full length album ‘Just Wait Till February’ (named after the statement Canadians routinely made, when I complained about being cold in November) and played a show alongside Ian Kamau, D-Sisive and Shad. It’s been quite an insane ride, to say the least.
So – that’s basically, why I haven’t been around.
Shoutout to everyone who has been involved with the project to date.
Supa83, Slow Hand Motem, Cheese Shop Paddy, Scotty P, J.Fevrier XIV, my cousin Kojo, Lee Reed, Elipz, Nilla, F.Fox, Auset.
