2nd Annual OVO Fest: Highlights

Blog. Blog. Blog.

Youtube doesn’t allow users to upload videos longer than 10 minutes – I had to chop this highlight tape into 3 parts… then 6.

J Cole is “the leader of the new school” – have you heard Friday Night Lights?

The Weeknd’s music doesn’t lend itself to live performances – this is not a knock on the ‘Canadian Crooner’s’ voice its just that his sedated sound is better enjoyed in an enclosed space with bumping bass – not to mention with (insert mind altering substance here.)

While the Blue Jays may be light years away from claiming an AL East crown Nas, greeting the crowd in a classic Jays fitted, counted as a run scored for the boys of summer.

The crowd exploded when Lil Wayne hit the stage – proof positive that Weezy’s popularity is alive and well.

I spend a great deal of time on youtube and I’ll often scan the comments left by users. There’s a term, which at first was new to me but now I’ve seen so often, called “trolling.” Basically ”trolling” is when someone leaves comments  that are not directly related to the video to which they’re posted. Without question, Lil Wayne is a favourite amongst “trolls” – second only to Justin Bieber ofcourse.

I was late getting tickets for the show, granted time didn’t really matter considering the tickets had nearly sold out before they were even made available to the public (something about MasterCard holders getting first dibs…?)

Stevie Wonder was not listed on the bill of performing acts – I may have been on the fence as to whether to shell out the sheckles for the ticket at first but after I heard the rumor that Stevie was to perform, my decison was made.

Easily my favourite part of the concert – at one point I stopped bouncing to take in the fact that I was watching a living legend perform and that this opportunity may never arise again.

I’ve developed an addiction to 70′s soul and I’ll often left Mr. Wonder’s whole catalouge play. I’ve had the debate with friends as to what artists have enough hits to support an entire party, literally 3 some-odd hours of only one musician’s songs. Michael Jackson’s name is often mentioned – Stevie is included in that category.

At least Rick Ross kept his shirt on for that one…
